Landscapes slide show (48) Beauty captured on a grander scale gives one a sense of place, a sense of belonging, a sense of being richly blessed by God's handiwork that comforts and thrills the soul. Vistas are made to order for allowing the spirit to soar, to soak in the exquisite juxtaposition of color, textures, and overall composition of the scenery before you. I often feel as though I am encroaching on holy ground, and I soften my steps, slow my pace, and quiet my breathing---it is seeing God sharing His soul---and I love it! It's kind of like a visitation, personal, intimate, and quietly exhilarating! My favorite times in photography!
Close-ups & Macro slide show (18) Like fine art shots, close-ups and macros can be extremely magical in arresting your attention on the details around us. And like fine art, they can be a lot of fun to behold as they can be used to reveal detail, and present rather mundane, everyday things to one's eye that is delightful to discover.
Fine Art slide show (5) These are especially fun shots to take as something wonderful can be made from something rather ordinary. And an unusual perspective can translate into a new way of looking at an object that is quite entertaining to the viewer. It's about seeing things in a different manner that enlarges your appreciation for what is around you.
Icecapades slide show (18) The opportunity to take these images was a complete surprise to me as I wasn't intending to shoot pictures of river ice, but rather of the Bitterroot Mountains beyond the river. When I looked down to see how close my tripod was to the river bank I saw all of this marvelous ice shapes! I spent nearly 3 hours along a 40-50 foot stretch of riverbank taking these pictures. None of these photos have running water in them, except Icecapades Im. The intricate crystallization along with sensuous curves is remarkable to study, and a sheer joy to behold----one of my favorite photoshoots of discovery!
Action slide show (4) The thing about seeing a subject frozen in action is that you find yourself wondering what happened next. They build anticipation in wanting to see the act resolved in some manner that verifies your discernment---or guess! Don't do a lot of these, but they are hard to turn down when your interest is piqued!
Owl Research Institute 2010 Hat Party slide show (0)
One of the most fun events of the year in Montana. It is a "thanks a lot" party held by the Owl Research Institute for their supporters. It is fanciful as everyone wears some kind of expressive hat, and feast upon incredibly prepared BBQ food, salads, and deserts---not to mention being able to wash that all down with wines, and micro-brewed beers. Did I mention entertainment? Wonderful musical groups, and individuals, get everyone into foot-stomping dancing, or just great relaxing melodies! Denver Holt, the O.R.I.'s President, and host, does a great job making everyone feel welcomed, well fed, and entertained as he uses this event to show appreciated for the support given to the serious research done at this facility, and in the field. As head of this conservation organization, he has steered it towards research, education, and public awareness of owl habitat, and has developed technical data on a variety of birds. Their website is www.owlinstitute.org.
Jean's Gallery slide show (4) Jean could never understand why I enjoyed going out on photoshoots until I taunted her to come along and see for herself. She used our original Sony point-and-shoot and after being shown how to frame a shot, and a few other hints she took a couple for proof of concept. Her first shots were pretty good, then she surprised me further by following me down a 30 foot precipitous, ice and snow covered path to take some photos of river ice. As she "the NOVICE" took a couple of off-the-cuff shots, all the while commenting how beautiful and peaceful the setting was, I "the PRO" set up for my tripod and camera to capture the TRUE essense of the landscape. Needless to say, hers was the best photo of the day! We have since enjoyed many photoshoots together and are reveling in sharing a common passion. So this is her gallery---I trust you will enjoy her images as much as I do.
